How It Happened

• The Knights opened the scoring as Mykayla Johnson ripped a solo home run with two outs in the top of the first. The homer was Johnson's third of the year and staked starter Megan Stapley to a 1-0 lead.

• Stapley would shut the Spartans out over the first five innings as she dominated the Green and White. The Spartans would get just two hits over the first five as SVU continued to lead into the bottom of the sixth.

• After giving up the early home run to Johnson, Spartan starter Ginger Lewis was equally stingy as she kept the Knights off the board the remainder of the game.

• While Lewis was doing the job in the circle, the York offense finally got into gear in the bottom of the sixth. Joanna Marmo and Carleigh Ruleman led the inning off with back-to-back singles. That started a six run outburst that turned the 1-0 deficit into a 6-1 lead.

• Junior Haley Hirn tied the game with a rocket double to center, scoring Marmo. Ashley Werner gave the Spartans the lead with a sacrifice fly to left, scoring Ruleman. After an error plated a pair of runs for York, Savannah Zittle plated a run with a booming double to center, making it 5-1. Zittle came around to score on a Katie Maloney double down the third base line.

• Lewis gave up a pair of hits in the top of the seventh but the Knights didn't score against the Spartan freshman as she earned her seventh win of the year.

How It Happened

• The Spartans opened up the game carrying over the momentum of their game one sixth inning offensive explosion. The Spartans began the game with three straight hits. Junior Savannah Zittle opened the game with her 100th career hit as she stroked a single to left. She moved to third when a pick off throw from the catcher got past the right fielder. Katie Maloney singled center, scoring Zittle with the game's first run. Joanna Marmo then doubled to left center, scoring Maloney for the 2-0 lead. Carleigh Ruleman walked but Marmo was nabbed stealing second. Haley Hirn then blasted a two-run homer to left to chase starter Megan Harmon. Game one starter Megan Stapley came into the game in relief and got the Knights out of the inning without any further damage.

 • While the Spartan offense gave starter Melissa Jurkiewicz a four run lead, the junior would only need one of those runs as she was dominant. Jurkiewicz tossed a one-hit shutout as she allowed just a lead off single to Tara Hilton in the top of the second. She finished the game retiring the final 15 Knight hitters in the game. Jurkiewicz had to throw just 46 pitches in the win.

• York added a single run in the fourth as Julie Van O'Linda singled, was sacrificed to second and moved to third on a ground out. Van O'Linda scored when the Knights tried to pick her off at third and third baseman missed the throw allowing Van O'Linda to score.

• The Spartans got an unearned run in the fifth as the York lead grew to 6-0.

• York closed out the game in the sixth. Zittle doubled to lead off the game and scored on a Maloney RBI double down the left field line. After a walk to Marmo, Ruleman fouled out to the catcher. That's when it got a little crazy. Maloney alertly tagged on the play because the third baseman charged in to make the play. The catcher tried to get Maloney at third but there was no one covering the bag and Maloney trotted home with the game ending run.
