How It Happened:

• The Eagles jumped on Spartan starter Melissa Jurkiewicz for a pair of runs early including an unearned run. Caroline Callahan tripled with one out to start the Eagle uprising. The Spartans caught Callahan on a fielder's choice but Callahan stayed in the run-down long enough and York mishandled a throw, allowing her to score the first run of the game. Malia Rogers then plated Hannah Hautz who had reached on the fielder's choice and moved all the way to third on the run down. Jurkiewicz got out of the inning without any further damage as UMW took the early two run lead.

• The Spartans responded in impressive fashion in the bottom of the first. Savannah Zittle was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning. Katie Maloney sacrificed Zittle to second. After a pop out, Carleigh Ruleman walked to put a pair of Spartans on board. Junior catcher Haley Hirn then launched a three-run homer to left, giving York a 3-2 lead after one inning of play.

• York made it 4-2 in the bottom of the second as Mia Ruffalo scored on a wild pitch with two outs.

• Mary Washington got a run back in the top of the third as Danielle Newman blasted a solo home run to center field, cutting York's lead to 4-3.

• York loaded the bases in the bottom of the third inning with one out. Quinn Fisher plated a run with an RBI ground out for the second out of the inning. The Eagles would get a ground out to end the inning and prevent any further damage.

• The Eagles threatened to plate some runs in the top of the sixth as UMW loaded the bases with one out. Jurkiewicz got a strikeout and a ground out to end the threat.

• The Spartans wouldn't be so fortunate in the top of the seventh. Malia Rogers led off the inning with a five pitch walk. Newman then had a hustle double to right center putting the tying run at second with no outs. York made a pitching change as Ginger Lewis came into the game looking to get the Spartans out of the jam. Lewis walked Brittnee Haynes to load the bases. Lewis then got a strikeout before Courtney Shea walked with the bases loaded to push across the Eagles' fifth run of the game. Amy Sykes then singled home Newman to tie the game at five. Hannah Bruns plated the go-ahead run with a sacrifice fly and York was able to cut down a runner at third but the damage had been done.

• The Spartans battled back in the bottom of the frame as they got a pair of runners with one out. After a fielder's choice left York down to their last out, Julie Van O'Linda drew a walk to load the bases. Savannah Zittle battled through an eight pitch at bat before she eventually grounded out to third to end the game. York left 11 runners stranded in the game as they hit .133 with runners in scoring position and did not get a hit with the bases loaded in the game.
