How it Happened:
• Inside the first minute the Spartans conceded a goal and trailed 1-0, but they quickly returned with two straight goals to take the lead behind Kayleigh Phillips and Caitlin Rankin goals. At the 21:01 mark, CNU equalized to tie it at 2-2, but again, York scored two consecutive goals to take a 4-2 lead, this time with goals from Rankin and Melissa Meehling. The first half, which was back and forth, continued to swing as CNU scored three goals in 4:06 to regain the lead at 5-4. Skye Slater, who finished with a career-high four goals, tied it at five with 4:20 remaining. The Spartans trailed at the halftime break 6-5.
• Slater picked up in the second half where she left off, scoring the first two goals of the final period. Both goals came within 2:30, and York was back ahead at 7-6. The Captains again bounced back, scoring two of their own, and once again the Spartans trailed 8-7. Freshman Meghan Fox, a high-octane scorer all year, came through with her first and only goal of the game with 20:44 left in the second half. Devin Hursey scored 46 seconds later, and York was back up 9-8. Finally, they were able to put two goals between them and the Captains, with Slater putting away a free-position shot. With 13:19 remaining, Lindsay Weaver, of CNU, cut the deficit in half on a free-position shot.
• The next eight minutes went without a score from either team, before Katelyn Cattrano scored to extend the lead to two goals at 11-9. Then, with three seconds left, Kelly Curran put the icing on the cake, finishing off a 12-9 victory on the road.
