How It Happened

• The Spartans got on the board early as Carleigh Ruleman blasted a two-run homer to right center, scoring Joanna Marmo and giving York the early 2-0 lead.

• The Captains answered with a pair of runs of their own in the bottom of the first. Rachael Payne had an RBI double to right center and came around to score on a Liz Andrews single down the right field line. The Captains loaded the bases but Ginger Lewis got out of the inning with a strikeout and a foul out to minimize the damage.

• The Captains blitzed the Spartans with a five run second inning to push out to a 7-2 lead.

• York got one run back in the top of the third on an Ashley Werner RBI single to right, scoring Ruleman.

• CNU made it 9-3 in the fourth with two more runs on a pair of hits and a Spartan error.

• York cut the CNU lead in half in the top of the fifth. Savannah Galati ripped a single up the middle with the bases load to plate a pair of runs. Julie Van O'Linda then made it 9-6 with an RBI single that scored Werner with York's sixth run.

• York got a hit batter in the sixth for their last base runner of the game as they wouldn't be able to muster any late game heroics.

How It Happened

• York jumped on the Captains for three runs in the top of the first inning. Savannah Zittle walked to lead off the game and then rode home on a two-run blast from Joanna Marmo as York took a 2-0 lead three batters into the game. Carleigh Ruleman followed Marmo with a blast of her own to put York up 3-0.

• The Captains finally reached Spartan starter Melissa Jurkiewicz in the fourth inning thanks to some two out magic. The Captains got a Britteny Walters double to left center to score J. Sprinkle with CNU's first run. Walters then scored on a Rachael Shiflett single to left as the Spartan lead was trimmed to 3-2.

• York tacked on a pair of runs in the sixth thanks to some sloppy CNU defense as York got their two runs on one hit and a pair of Captain errors.

• CNU got one of those runs back in the bottom of the sixth on a Walters home run to left.

• York appeared to take charge in the seventh as they plated two more runs. Marmo had an RBI double and then scored on an Ashley Werner single through the right side. The Spartans would leave the bases loaded. That would cost them dearly in the bottom of the seventh.

• The Captains started the bottom of the seventh with a strikeout as York was two outs away from a 7-3 victory. A Leah Andrews single up the middle started a four hit spurt that turned the four run lead into a 7-5 advantage. York got a fielder's choice but the Captains got a run out of it as the Spartan lead dwindled to 7-6. After a walk, Calah Savage singled to left, tying the game at seven as Tara Deck scored the tying run. Shiflett then won the game with her fourth hit of game two as Walters scored the game-winner for CNU.
