How it Happened:
• The first 15 minutes started just as you'd think: two top-10 programs settling in against top competition. Finally, just past the halfway mark of the first 30 minutes, Gettysburg opened the scoring on a Katie Willis goal to take the early lead. York, the eighth-ranked team in the nation, bounced back quickly with a goal just 2:04 after Gettysburg broke the scoreless battle. Melissa Meehling, who led York with two goals, leveled the game at 1-1.

• Following the equalizer, the two teams went into another eight minute scoreless drought. But, with just under five minutes remaining, Gettysburg broke loose. They took a 2-1 lead with 4:51 left before Steph Colson ripped off three goals in 1:36 to give the Bullets a 5-1 lead at the halftime break.

• Meehling again answered for York, scoring just 2:06 into the second half, trimming the lead to 5-2. Gettysburg pushed the deficit back to four, scoring with 24:35 left in the game. The Spartans, however, wouldn't quit. Devin Hursey and Regan Cook buried their chances just 1:42 apart, closing within two goals, 6-4. The Bullets were able to return the consecutive goals with two of their own, though. Meghan Fox would score with 6:57 remaining, but it was not enough for the Spartans, who fell 9-5.

Spartan Notes:
Freshmen Regan Cook and Meghan Fox each scored their 12th goal, a team high … Fox leads the team in points with 16 … both of York's losses have come to ranked opponents (Franklin & Marshall) … the game was the first that York did not unleash a single free-position shot … York's 11 draws controlled matches the lowest of the season … the Spartans caused just four turnovers, the lowest of the season … York did, however, also take care of the ball, turning over the ball just 11 times, the lowest of the season … the 11 shots on goal were also the lowest total of the season for York.

Up Next:
York College will have to rebound quickly, as the Spartans will host Capital Athletic Conference for Mary Washington on Saturday. The matchup is scheduled for 1 p.m. and will be the conference opener for the Spartans.
