How It Happened

• The Spartans opened the scoring in the second as Michael Moore scored from third on a wild pitch, giving York the 1-0 lead.

• While the Spartan offense was trying to find its footing, Spartan starter Randy Frankfield was outstanding. Frankenfield allowed a runner to reach third in the first but then got very stingy as he did not allow a runner past second base until the eighth inning.

• While Frankenfield was shutting down the Knights, York got a second run in the bottom of the sixth. Christian Bilan doubled with one out and scored on a two-out RBI single from Grant Oberholtzer to put York up 2-0.

• The Spartan offense exploded for a five-run bottom of the seventh inning. The Spartans loaded the bases and then Seth Brosius reached on an error to plate the first run. Michael Moore then plated a run with an RBI single to make it 4-0. Bilan then made it 7-0 with a three-run double to give York the commanding lead.

• With Frankenfield tiring in the eighth, the Knights got two runs, one earned, on the Spartans' senior lefty. Southern Virginia tacked on two more against the Spartan bullpen with as they cut their deficit to three.

• After York went in order in the bottom of the eighth, Will Grega entered the game and nailed down the save as he allowed one walk but pitched around the free pass to earn the save.
