Box Score CLERMONT, FLA – The York College softball team scored 20 runs, while giving up just one in a triple header on Tuesday in Clermont, Florida. The Spartans opened the morning with a 9-0 victory over Adrian, before taking care of Finlandia 6-0. They concluded the day defeating Rose-Hulman 5-1 to improve to 5-2 on the year.

How It Happened
• Katie Maloney, who has been outstanding to lead off games, tripled to right field to open the game. Joanna Marmo walked with one out, and then took off for second stealing. Marmo was thrown out, but Maloney was able to score on the throw, giving York a 1-0 lead.
• The Spartans blew open the game in the second inning, started by a Ashley Werner lead-off double to left field. Julie Van O'Linda earned a walk, following a 3-for-3 performance on Sunday. She advanced to second and Werner moved to third on a passed ball. With the bases loaded, Mia Ruffalo walked, scoring one run. Maloney was next, and also got hit by a pitch, scoring another run. To score the third run of the inning, Savannah Zittle put one through the right side of the infield. York still had the bases loaded, but Adrian was able to force Marmo into grounding into the double play.
• York scored four more in the third inning, while Adrian was still hitless. Haley Hirn and Carleigh Ruleman scored when Van O'Linda singled up the middle. Werner scored when Quinn Fisher grounded up the middle and Ruffalo drove in Van O'Linda.
• Hirn scored again after a passed ball in the top of the fourth, pushing the York lead to 9-0. Meanwhile, Melissa Jurkiewicz, had a perfect game going until the bottom of the fourth inning, when she gave up a single with two outs. She ended up only giving up two hits in her five innings of work, improving to 3-0 as the starter.

How It Happened
• Katelyn Mehrling mowed down Finlandia in the top of the first, striking out the first two batters, and forcing a ground out. To start the bottom of the first, it was Katie Maloney again starting things off for the Spartans. Maloney singled, then advanced to second on a passed ball. She would score to give York a 1-0 lead when Joanna Marmo launched a double to center field. Marmo scored on the next at-bat when Haley Hirn doubled down the left field line. On those three hits, York led 2-0 after one inning.
• Neither team was able to put a run on the board in the second or third innings. York, without a single hit, scored to make it 3-0 in the bottom of the fourth when Maloney reached on a dropped fly ball. Van O'Linda scored on the mishap, after walking.
• Finally, in the bottom of the sixth, the Spartans put the game away thanks to a Savannah Zittle three-run homer to center field. The dinger scored Maloney and Van O'Linda, the second time scoring for each of them.
• Mehrling and Ginger Lewis combined to shutout the Lions over seven innings. It was Mehrling's first start of her career, notching five strikeouts in the circle. Lewis earned the save in the win.

How It Happened
• York trailed after the bottom of the first, when Maddie Struble hit a double for Rose-Hulman, scoring Gabbi Markison. Ginger Lewis gave up two hits in the first inning, but was able to settle in, and didn't give up another hit in the next four innings.
• The Spartans combined for just four hits in the three innings, without a run scored. But, in the top of the fourth, they got on the board. Carleigh Ruleman homered to right center to lead off the inning. Immediately following the long ball, Ashley Werner doubled. Then, with two outs and Werner still on second, Mia Ruffalo scorched one to right center, giving York their first lead of the game, 2-1.
• The teams headed to the seventh inning with the game still in the balance at 2-1. Savannah Zittle led off with a single. She moved to second when Savannah Galati laid down a sacrifice bunt. Haley Hirn knocked one through, and advanced to second, leaving two on for Ruleman. The senior took full advantage of the opportunity, singling to left field, scoring two. York wasn't done, though. Julie Van O'Linda drove in Ruleman and Ashley Werner, stretching the York lead to 5-1. Quinn Fisher drove in O'Linda and Werner on the next at-bat, finishing off a three-run, six-hit inning for York.

York is now 12-5 all-time in Clermont, Florida … Ashley Werner, Joanna Marmo, Savannah Zittle and Katie Maloney all lead the team with nine hits on the season … Julie Van O'Linda has seven hits, five runs scored and five RBI in just 13 at bats on the year … the freshman is hitting .538 with a .647 on-base percentage … Melissa Jurkiewicz, in four starts, has a 1.99 ERA, giving up 16 hits in 24.2 IP and 13 K … Ginger Lewis has appeared in five games for York in the circle, with a 1.62 ERA despite her 0-2 record … Zittle and Carleigh Ruleman's home runs were the first of the season for York.
