How It Happened
• York's Katie Maloney led off proceedings with a single to center field and advanced to second when Savannah Zittle moved her on a sacrifice bunt. Then, with two outs, Maloney moved to third on a passed ball. Hanover was able to get out of the inning unscathed, though, on York's first threat to open the game.

• From there, neither team recorded a hit until the bottom of the third. Taylor Merrill walked to lead off for the Panthers. She advanced to third after a sacrifice bunt and then a single, giving Hanover first and third with one out. The scoreless tie was broken when Merrill scored on an error. The Panthers broke the inning open on a single, scoring another and putting a runner on third. Hanover took a 4-0 lead when Mckenzie Writt singled to center. They scored four on three hits and an error.

• When the Spartans got the bats in their hands at the top of the fourth, they were able to cut into the deficit. Zittle led off and got on base after being hit by a pitch. Joanna Marmo moved her to second, singling to second base. York loaded the bases when Carleigh Ruleman was also hit by a pitch, the second of the inning. They stayed loaded with a run scored after Katelyn Mehrling was walked with still one out. Ashley Werner, the only Spartan with two hits on the day, took advantage of the situation, singling to center and scoring Marmo. Ruleman was thrown out at home attempting to score. York managed two runs on two hits to close the gap to 4-2.

• The two teams combined for just one hit and not a single run until Hanover scored in the bottom of the sixth. They scored without a hit in the half inning, but earned a walk, and advanced on an error and then a sacrifice fly.

• In the top of the seventh, York trailed 5-2 and needed to generate some offense. Werner did just that in the lead off spot. Her double down the right field line gave the Spartans some hope, but were unable to capitalize, falling 5-2.

How It Happened

Melissa Jurkiewicz started really well, mowing down the first three batters to start the game. The Spartan bats also started hot, with Katie Maloney singling to center to lead off for the second straight game. She was caught stealing second, however. Joanna Marmo, with two outs and nobody on, singled to center. She advanced to third when Carleigh Ruleman put one through the left side of the infield. Marmo and Ruleman both scored when Haley Hirn knocked one to right field, where the outfielder was unable to make the catch, and was charged with an error.

• Jurkiewicz gave up a double to Alex Lawrence to open the second inning. Lawrence advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt, and then scored on a ground out. Waynesburg managed just one hit but was able to get a run on the board, but York still led 2-1.

Savannah Zittle singled in the bottom of the third and would reach third when Hirn singled, but the threat never created a run, but the Spartans were creating chances. In the bottom of the fourth, they created some more separation when Julie Van O'Linda singled, scoring Ashley Werner. Werner was on the bases after a lead-off single. She moved to second on a Joclyn Hunsicker single.

• Waynesburg cut into the 3-1 lead in the top of the sixth when Rachel Skon singled with two outs. She moved to second on a wild pitch before Lawrence singled for her second hit of the day, scoring Skon. Lawrence, though, kept running, and was thrown out to end the inning at third base.

• Still, mired in a close battle, York broke things open in the bottom of the sixth, scoring three on four hits to take a 6-2 lead. Savannah Galati pinch hit for Mehrling and singled to start. Mia Ruffalo was brought in to pinch run for Galati. The sophomore didn't waste any time on the bases, robbing second. Quinn Fisher singled before Van O'Linda ripped one up the middle, scoring Ruffalo and advancing Fisher to third. Van O'Linda, a freshman, went 3-for-3 in the second game on Sunday. Van O'Linda stole second, which turned into an important decision, because Zittle singled and scored Fisher and Van O'Linda.

• Jurkiewicz took down the Waynesburg lineup one-two-three in the top of the seventh, to earn the victory, winning 6-2.
