GAME HIGHLIGHTS
• Southern Virginia opened up the scoring with an early three-pointer before York ripped off an 11-0 run to create some early separation. Sam Hruz, who didn't play in the first meeting between the two teams, launched a three-pointer to push the lead to nine. The Spartans did, however, seem to struggle with the Knights' full-court press, turning over the ball seven times in the opening period. Morgan Golec led York with nine first-quarter points, as the Green and White led 21-14.
• To open the second quarter, Sam Mocniak buried two three-pointers on back-to-back possessions to extend the lead to double digits for the first time, 27-16. Morgan Kuehne, who sat out the last two games with a broken finger, returned to action and netted her first bucket with just over five minutes remaining in the half. The Knights, who stayed persistent throughout the afternoon, put together a 5-0 run to cut York's lead to eight. Beth Wiseley, though, converted two free throws then a layup before Mocniak drained another three. That spurt pushed the lead to 13. A Debria Hendricks layup with six seconds left gave the Spartans a 46-35 halftime lead.
• York and Southern Virginia traded runs to start the second half, before a few minor Spartan bursts had the lead approaching 20. The Spartans led 63-44 after Sarah Shearer turned a nice defensive play into a layup on the other end. After turning the ball over 12 times in the first half, York was able to settle down in the third quarter, only turning the ball over three times to help stretch the lead. York led 65-46 after three.
• York controlled the fourth quarter, eventually putting away the Knights 84-61 on the road. Despite the dominating effort, though, the Green and White made just 58.3% of their shots from the free throw line.
