How It Happened

• The Spartans wasted little time in opening the scoring in the bottom of the first. Savannah Zittle opened the frame with an infield single. Ashley Werner then hit a well placed bunt to put Spartans at first and second. • Spartan starter Melissa Jurkiewicz was cruising through the first three innings but ran into trouble in the fourth. The Diplomats opened the inning with back-to-back doubles from Megan Ryan and Taylor Long to tie the game at one. Pitcher Katie Wenger then blasted a two-run home run to left field, giving the Diplomats a 3-1 lead.

• The Green and White trimmed their deficit to 3-2 as Werner drilled a solo home run to deep left center to lead off the sixth. The Spartans got a runner to second with two outs but they wouldn't be able to tie the game.

• F&M got an unearned run in the seventh to close out the scoring.

How It Happened

• After snoozing in the first game, the Spartan offense erupted for five runs in the first inning.
