Box Score 2 YORK, PA – The York College Spartan softball squad earned a Capital Athletic Conference sweep of Penn State Harrisburg as the Spartans defeated the Lions 7-5 in the opener and completed the sweep with a 9-0 five inning win in the nightcap. The Spartans hit a pair of home runs in the two games as they have broken the single season school record for home runs in a season with 24 round trippers as a team.

How It Happened:
• The Spartans opened the scoring in the first as Haley Hirn plated Savannah Zittle with an RBI single for York's first run of the game.
• Spartan starter Courtney Martin was cruising through the first five innings but ran into some trouble in the sixth. She allowed a hit and a base runner via a Spartan error. York called on Melissa Jurkiewicz in relief but she was not sharp as the Lions got five runs on six hits with an error in the inning. The Lions got RBIs from Rieley Loch, Amanda Hartman, Emily Parmer, and a pair of runs batted in from Jackie Furch. Martin came back into the game to close out the inning.
• The Spartans responded in fantastic fashion in the bottom of the sixth. Ashley Werner was hit by a pitch to open the inning. Katie Maloney then ripped a single to center. Hirn came up to the plate and jacked a three-run shot to left center, cutting the Harrisburg lead to 6-4. Carleigh Ruleman was hit by a pitch to restart the Spartan offense. Joanna Marmo reached on a bunt single and Mia Ruffalo alertly advanced to third on the bunt as the pinch runner. Savannah Galati gave York the lead when she ripped a two-run double to left center. Martin then singled on another bunt as the go-ahead run moved to third. After a strikeout, Zittle scored pinch runner Brittany Myers with a sacrifice fly as the Spartans got the all important insurance run.
• Martin closed out the game in the top of the seventh as she allowed a gift double after a clearly foul ball was ruled a double for the Lions' Rieley Loch. She got three ground ball outs to end the game.

How It Happened:
• The Spartans offense, after being held in check for the three innings, exploded for seven runs in the fourth inning. Carleigh Ruleman opened the scoring with an RBI single. Joanna Marmo then plated two with a double to center. Melissa Jurkiewicz stroked a single to left to make it 4-0. Savannah Zittle then made it 6-0 with a two-run single to left. Ashley Werner closed out the inning with a sacrifice fly to left.
• York ended the game with two runs in the fifth inning. Ruleman tripled with one out to start the uprising. After a ground out, Brittany Myers launched a home run to deep left to invoke the mercy rule as York won the game 9-0. The home run by Myers broke the school record as the Spartans now have 24 round trippers for the year.
