Box Score 2 CLERMONT, FLA – The York College softball team earned a pair of wins during day two of the Spring Games in Clermont, Florida. The Spartans downed Cabrini 3-1 in the opener and then held off St. Vincent, 5-4, in the nightcap.

How It Happened:
• The Spartans opened the scoring in the top of the second as freshman Courtney Gall stroked a two run single to score Carliegh Ruleman and Melissa Jurkiewicz.
• York pushed the lead to 3-0 in the fourth as Ashley Werner scored pinch runner Mia Ruffalo with an RBI single to left.
• Cabrini got their lone run in the fourth as Jess Giordano singled in Kaitlyn Cooper, cutting York's lead to 3-1.
• Jurkiewicz retired nine of the final 10 batters she faced in the game with the lone batter reaching via an error.

How It Happened:
• St. Vincent opened the scoring with a Courtney Patterson RBI single to right to give the Bearcats a 1-0 lead.
• York took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the fourth as Haley Hirn launched a two-run blast to left, plating Katie Maloney for the Spartan lead.
• The fifth inning was action packed as both teams scored three runs in the frame.
• The fifth for St. Vincent saw Shelby Noel stroke a two run single to right. Patterson, who singled earlier in the inning, then came home on Emily Duerr sacrifice fly to left.
• York's bottom of the fifth saw Courtney Gall open the inning with a triple to right. Savannah Zittle doubled in Gall for York's first run of the inning. Katie Maloney plated Zittle for a sacrifice fly after Zittle moved to third on a Joanna Marmo single. Marmo scored on a Hirn single down the left field line for the eventual game winning RBI.
• Spartan starter Courtney Martin had to work out of jams in both the sixth and seventh innings.

Game Two Notes: The Spartans got five runs on 11 hits with two errors while St. Vincent had four runs on eight hits with no errors … Courtney Martin picked up her first win of the year … the Spartans' 3-1 start is the best in the tenure of head coach Jen Petteys, besting the Spartans' 2-2 start in each of the last two years.
What's Next: The Spartans return to action on Tuesday, March 1 when they face Rose-Hulman and Finlandia during day two of the 2016 spring trip. The Spartans face Rose-Hulman at 9:00 am and Finlandia at 11:00 am.
