Box Score YORK, Pa. – The No. 15 York College women's lacrosse team surrendered a 15-9 victory to No. 8 Gettysburg College in a nonconference clash on Tuesday afternoon at Kinsley Field.
Sophomore Jayme Verman (York, Pa. / Lancaster Country Day) turned in another productive performance offensively as she recorded a team-high five points on two goals and three assists, in addition to causing three turnovers and claiming two draw controls. Verman leads the team with 24 points on 11 goals and 13 assists this season.
Brittany Noell (Silver Spring, Md. / Our Lady Of Good Counsel) led the team in scoring with a hat trick, her third of the season, with five shots on goal. Noell leads the team in goals on the year with 15.
York (6-3) held a 2-1 lead just 2:43 into the contest following goals by Melissa Meehling (Monkton, Md. / Hereford) and Noell. Gettysburg (6-2) then went on a 6-0 run to round out the first 15 minutes of the first half to take a 7-2 lead. The Spartans stopped the Bullet run with a goal by Verman, but Gettysburg answered back with two consecutive goals.
Karlie Dougherty (Baltimore, Md. / Mercy) tallied a first half goal for York, but Gettysburg had the final first-half goal and took a 10-4 lead into halftime.
Mandy Buell did most of the damage for the Bullets in the first half as she scored four goals. Gettysburg's leading scorer scored a total of seven goals on the day, bringing her season total to 31.
The Bullets took a commanding lead when they extended their lead to nine with three straight goals to start the first three minutes of the second half.
Noell and Sarah Castle (Annapolis, Md. / Annapolis Area Christian) each had a pair of goals in the second half, as Verman set up Noell on both of her goals.
The Spartans return to the field on Saturday in a home Capital Athletic Conference contest against Marymount (Va.) at 1:00 p.m.
