Box Score FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – The York College women's soccer team dropped a 2-1 decision to Capital Athletic Conference opponent Mary Washington on the road on Wednesday evening.
The Spartans (3-7, 1-2 CAC) fell into a first-half deficit as the Eagles (7-5, 2-1) put to two tallies on the board, less than four minutes apart.
The first of the two tallies came game in the 15th minute on Mary Washington's first shot of the game. The second tally came on a rebound after Spartan goalkeeper Kate Lutte (Catasauqua, Pa. / Catasauqua) made a save on the previous shot.
York mounted some pressure midway through the second half following a corner kick and eventually received a penalty kick in the 73rd minute. Freshman Caitlin Rankin (Joppa, Md. / Edgewood) took the kick and converted the attempt for a goal, her second of the season.
Following the penalty kick goal, the Spartans were unable to muster up another shot and generated just one corner kick for the remainder of the game.
The Spartans return to action on Saturday when the travel to face Christopher Newport University in Capital Athletic Conference contest at 5:00 p.m.
