Box Score

YORK, Pa. – A dominating performance from start to finish produced a 99-69 victory for the York College women's basketball team over Southern Virginia University on Saturday afternoon at Charles Wolf Gymnasium.

For the second time this season, York (6-9, 2-6 CAC) had five or more players reach double-figure point totals. The first came in the first game of the season in a 102-63 win over Cazenovia when the Spartans had six players reach double digits.

Senior Shea Wassel (North Wales, Pa. / Lansdale Catholic) continued her run of success as she notched her eighth double-double of the season with a new career-high 23 points to go along with 13 rebounds. It was the third straight game in which the senior forward has recorded a double-double for points and rebounds and the sixth time in the last eight games she has reached double-digit points.

York opened up an 18-5 lead over the Knights (3-11, 1-7) in less than six minutes into the first half. Sam Hruz (White Marsh, Md. / Mercy) made the first and last buckets for the Spartans during that stretch as she compiled six of her 11 total points on the day.

The Spartans then went on a 17-0 run spanning five minutes through the midway portion of the first half, extending the lead to 35-8.

With just under three minutes to play in the first half, senior Jess Selby (Upper Marlboro, Md. / Calverton School) put an exclamation point on the first half performance for York with a three pointer that gave York a 39-point lead (57-18), its largest lead of the game. Selby totaled nine points, five rebounds and two assists in 14 minutes of play.

Morgan Golec (Abingdon, Md. / Patterson Mill) rounded out the first half with eight of her 10 total points and three of her total four rebounds in 10 minutes of play in the half.

York closed out the first half with 58 points, its second-highest total this season, while shooting 50.0% percent from the field and 42.9% from three-point range.

The Green and White had three starters in double-digit point totals at the end of the first half, one of which being Sarah Shearer (York, Pa. / West York Area) who finished the game with 12 points to go along with career-highs in steals (5) and assists (3).

The Spartans continued to pile on the points in the second half, maintaining a comfortable 30-point buffer through most of the half while having the luxury of continuing the rotation of 10 non-starters into the game.

Morgan Kuehne (Red Lion, Pa. / Red Lion) played a big role in closing out the second half for York as she scored 10 of her 11 total points in 10 minutes of play in the second half.

Julianne Lambert (Hockessin, Del. / Padua Academy) made big contributions off the bench distributing the ball and facilitating the offense as she dished out a career-high eight assists to go along with five points.

York finished the game shooting 43.0% from the field and 78.6% from the free-throw line. Southern Virginia compiled a 36.9% field goal percentage, the 10th time this season the Spartans have held their opponent to under 40.0% from the field.

The Spartans will return to court on Wednesday when they travel to St. Mary's (Md.) for a Capital Athletic Conference contest starting at 6:00 p.m.
