Box Score FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – The York College women's
soccer team suffered a 2-0 loss Saturday to Mary Washington in
Capital Athletic Conference action. The result moves the Spartans
to 5-10-1 on the season including 5-3 in conference play while the
Eagles improve to 8-4-1 and 3-2 in CAC action.
The hosts got on the board in the 14th minute when
Amy Olson tallied the opening salvo for the Eagles. Sarah Tryon
lofted a cross from outside the box toward the Spartan net. Olson
then redirected the service with a header, giving the Mary
Washington side a 1-0 advantage.
The Eagles' second tally came just 1:36 before the
halftime whistle. Sarah McMillan hit a corner kick that Lindsay
Bennett finished, providing the final 2-0 result.
York pushed in the second half, notching six shots and six
corners, but was unable to breakthrough.
For the contest, Mary Washington led in shots 10-9 while the
Spartans owned a slight 7-6 advantage in corners.
York goalkeeper Sarah Spanarkel suffers the loss as she made
three saves over her 90 minutes of work. Tina Brehm picks up the
clean sheet in the Eagle goal as she also made three stops on the
day.
The Green and White return to action on Thursday, October 21.
York is slated to host Rutgers-Camden at Graham Field in a 4:00 pm
non-conference contest.
