SALISBURY, MD – The York College
women's lacrosse team ran into a buzz saw Saturday afternoon
as #3 Salisbury bested the Green and White by a 21-1 count. With
the loss, the Spartans fall to 0-3 (0-2 CAC) for the year, while
the Sea Gulls improve to a flawless 4-0 (2-0 CAC)
The hosts jumped out to a quick 2-0
lead with a pair of goals within the game's first 32 seconds.
Jessica Chmielewski notched her tenth goal of the year just 16
seconds after the opening draw control. It took another 16 seconds
for the Sea Gulls to tack on their second as Courtney Sorenson
scored off of a Logan Bilderback assist.
Salisbury would not look back as
they went on to capture a 15-0 advantage heading into the half. The
first frame saw the Sea Gulls best the Spartans in shots at 29-2
while the hosts also secured 12-of-16 draw controls.
York's lone tally came from
junior captain Megan Foy (Tom River, N.J./Toms River
North) who scored her fourth of the year to open the
second half. Foy's unassisted score came 49 seconds into the
frame.
Overall, the second 30 minutes saw
the Sea Gulls take their foot off the gas yet the hosts still
scored six times in the period.
For the game, Salisbury held a huge
39-9 advantage in shots and a 17-7 margin in draw controls. The Sea
Gulls picked up 20 ground balls to the Spartans' 12.
The hosts spread out the scoring as
no Sea Gull tallied more than three times. Sarah Clemmens notched
three goals and an assist for four points while five other
Salisbury players scored twice. Kim Cudmore paced the Sea Gulls in
total points with five courtesy of a goal and four helpers.
Goalkeeper Julie Ann Caulfield records the win with five saves.
Foy scored York's lone goal of
the game as both her and Megan Bell (Westminser,
Md./Francis Scott Key) notched four shots. Bell also won
three draw controls. Senior Anne Feustle (Baltimore,
Md./Catonsville) takes the loss in the cage for the Green
and White as she made 11 saves.
The Spartans will look to grab their
first win of 2009 on Tuesday, March 3, with a trip to Lycoming
College. The non-conference tilt is slated for 3:00 pm.
