YORK, PA-The York College women's
lacrosse team rolled to a 20-4 non-conference victory over Hood
College on a windy and cold Monday at York's Kinsley Field.
The Spartans improve to 5-7 overall while the Blazers fall to 2-6
for the campaign.
The Spartans opened the contest with four goals
in the first six minutes to take the early led. Hood converted
their lone goal of the first half when Liz Rakowski scored at the
21:56 mark.
York continued the scoring onslaught with seven
goals over the final 21:25 of the half to take the 11-1 lead to the
break.
The Spartans continued to roll in the second
half by scoring the first four goals of the half. The Blazers
notched a three-goal flurry over 4:58, trimming the York lead to
15-4. York scored the final five goals of the game to provide for
the Spartans' final margin of victory.
Senior Jaclyn Girsh (Mahopac, NY/Mahopac) paced
the Spartans with eight points on six goals and two assists. Girsh
also had two ground balls and three draw controls. Juniors Brianna
Yapps (Joppa, MD/Fallston) and Kaitlin Davis (Annapolis, MD/St.
Mary's) each added six points. Davis had six goals and a pair of
ground balls while Yapps notched five goals and one assist for six
points. Yapps also had a ground ball and four draw controls for the
contest. Alison Napolitano (Annapolis, MD/Annapolis Area Christian)
handed out five assists in the game. Jaclyn VanLuit (Shrewsbury,
PA/Susquehannock) and Caitlin Walther (Harleysville, PA /
Souderton) each added a goal and assist for two points.
Rakowski, Brandy Noel, Rachel Loss, and Britney
Colandreo scored goals for the Blazers. Laurie Burrier handed out
Hood's lone assist.
Sophomore Anne Fuestle (Baltimore,
MD/Catonsville) started in goal and made three saves in her 41
minutes in net. She allowed one Hood goal. Kimberly Scheiman (Palo
Alto, CA/Henry M. Gunn) notched one save while she allowed three
goals in her 19 minutes of action. Lauren Lieb finished the game
with six saves while she allowed the 20 Spartan goals.
The Spartans finished the game with a 34-13 edge
in shots while they also held a 30-20 advantage in ground balls.
The green and white won 18 of the game's 26 draw controls
while they finished the game with 22 turnovers. Hood committed 32
turnovers in the game as 11 of those miscues were forced by the
green and white.
York returns to action on Saturday as they host
Elizabethtown in a non-conference make-up contest at Kinsley Field.
Game time is set for 1:00 pm.
