CHAMBERSBURG, PA-The York College field hockey squad posted a
2-0 shutout win at Wilson College on Thursday afternoon in
Chambersburg, PA. The Spartans, winners of two of their last three,
improve to 6-12 overall while the Phoenix fall to 7-7 for the
campaign.
Senior Jami Hassler (Derwood, Md./Magruder) was
the story for the Spartans as she had a hand in both of the Spartan
goals. Hassler's goal came in the game's 32nd minutes
as she got the Spartans on the board just prior to the break.
Hassler's then assisted on on the Spartans' second goal as
she fed April McFarland (York, Pa./Eastern York)
insurance goal came just after the half as McFarland scored in the
38th minute to give the green and white the 2-0 lead.
The Spartans finished the game holding a 12-2 advantage in total
shots and a 5-3 edge in penalty corners.
Senior Katie Cuff (Newton, N.J./Newton) and
sophomore Claire Rekitzke (Seaford, Del./Seaford
Senior) split the duties in goal. Cuff played the first 35
minutes and recorded one save. Rekitzke also notched one save in
her 35 minutes of work. Nikol Grafnetterova played the first 53:04
for Wilson. She allowed both Spartan goals and she made six saves.
Janessa Demeule played the final 16:56 and had one save.
The Spartans return to action on Tuesday when they travel to
Franklin & Marshall to face the nationally ranked
Diplomats. Game time is set for 7:00 pm in Lancaster.
