YORK, PA – The #10 York College field hockey team suffered a 2-1 MAC Crossover loss to Stevens Institute on a pristine Friday night in York.
The Spartans scored early but the Ducks tied the game and then took a lead they would not relinquish. Stevens is now 1-0 while the Spartans suffered a rare non-conference loss at Kinsley Field as they fall to 0-1.

How It Happened
• After the first six minutes of the game saw the teams battle back and forth, York fashioned a fast break goal to take the lead.
Claire Burrows raced down the right sideline with the ball. She served a beautiful pass to the center of the box where freshman
Kelsey Shahan finished off the chance on her first collegiate shot for the 1-0 lead.
• Stevens took little time in responding with a goal 2:19 later. The Spartans got a defensive save from
Olivia Miller but the Ducks drew a corner shortly after. The Spartans got an
Abby Smith save but Stevens earned another corner and this time they didn't miss. Aleah Dinmore scored on a tipped shot as Jess Kopernick got the assist to tie the game.
• The Ducks got the game winner just over five minutes into the second quarter as Sophia Cozza scored from Taylor Brooks for the 2-1 lead just ten minutes before the half. Both teams had limited chances the rest of the quarter as Stevens had an 8-6 first half margin in shots while both teams had three corners.
• The second half was bereft of offensive chances for either side. York had a 2-0 margin in third quarter shots while Stevens had a 4-1 shot margin in the fourth quarter with neither team finding pay dirt.
• Stevens out shot York 12-9 including 8-5 in shots on goal. York held a slight 6-5 edge in penalty corners for the night.
