YORK, PA – The York College field hockey squad tallied two third quarter goals to earn their first win of the year, 3-1 over Gettysburg on a beautiful Wednesday night in York.
The Spartan struck for an early lead in the first quarter and then put the game away with a pair of tallies in the third period.
The Spartans improve to 1-1 overall while the Bullets fall to 1-1.

How It Happened
• The Spartans had the better of the play in opening quarter of play. They got two quick penalty corners in the opening 2:49 of the game. The second corner resulted in a 1-0 lead as
Jade Haines fired off a pass from the top of the circle.
Hannah Downs finished off the pass for the goal and the 1-0 Spartan lead.
• York out shot the Bullets 7-1 in the opening quarter while they also held a 5-0 bulge in penalty corners.
• The second quarter was lacking in offensive chances for either team as the majority of play was in the middle of the field. Each team had one shot in the quarter while Gettysburg had the lone corner of the period.
• York put the game away in the early stages of the third quarter. On their first penalty corner of the half, first year Spartan
Katelyn Landis took a pass off a Downs' corner, drove to the cage and finished off the chance for her first collegiate goal in her second collegiate game. Landis' goal came 2:33 into the half. York wasted little time in tacking on as
Kelbie Linebaugh finished off a third corner opportunity as she scored off a Haines pass for the 3-0 lead. The goal came 1:25 after the Landis tally.
• Those goals lit a fire under the Bullets as they dominated the last six minutes of the third quarter. That dominance paid off with a Sabrina Post goal off a pass from Jillian Somers with just under five minutes left in the quarter. Gettysburg out shot York 5-3 in the quarter while the Spartans had a 4-3 advantage in corners.
• The fourth quarter featured a balanced back and forth period. York had a 5-4 edge in total shots including 4-1 in shots on goal. York finished the game out shooting Gettysburg 16-11 including 9-3 in shots on goal. The Spartans had a significant 13-6 bulge in penalty corners for the match.
