Spartan Volleyball Notches First Win of Season at Etown Tri-Match

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. - The Spartan women's volleyball team split a tri-match at Elizabethtown on Friday with a 3-1 loss to the host Blue Jays followed by a 3-1 victory over Ursinus to collect their first win of the season.

How It Happened
Against Elizabethtown, the Spartans won the first set, 25-20, but the Blue Jays rallied back to claim three-straight sets by scores of 25-13, 25-20, 25-15. Saniya Esters led the Spartans with 14 kills, while Maddie Hoffman (18) and Kylie Kuo (15) combined for 33 assists. Sami Baer led all players with 28 digs.

The Spartans capped off the day by pulling out a 3-1 victory over Ursinus in a closely contested match. York claimed the first two sets by scores of 25-19 and 25-23, before the Bears won the third, 25-19. The Green and White sealed the match by scoring four-straight points to capture a 25-21 fourth set win. Esters led all players with another 14-kill performance and Hoffman paced the team with 21 assists. Baer posted a second 28-dig effort on the day.

York has dropped the last five meetings with Elizabethtown and won the last two meetings with Ursinus … Saniya Esters led York with 28 kills (3.50 kps) on the day … Maddie Hoffman (39) and Kylie Kuo (31) both eclipsed 30 assists on the day … Sami Bear paced the Spartans with 56  digs on the day … Esters led York with five blocks.
