Mueller Tagged CSC First Team Academic All-American

GREENWOOD, Ind. - York College junior men's lacrosse standout Jeff Mueller has been named a First Team Academic All-American as announced by College Sports Communicators (CSC) on Wednesday.

Mueller earned a spot on the CSC NCAA Division III Men's At-Large Academic All-America Team which combines the top student-athletes from the sports of fencing, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle, skiing, volleyball, water polo and wrestling. Academic eligibility for this prestigious honor requires a student-athlete to be at least a sophomore academically and athletically with a minimum cumulative grade point of 3.50. Nominees for the sport of lacrosse must have competed in 90 percent of the institution's games played or must have started in at least 66 percent of the institution's games for the season they are being nominated in.

Mueller far exceeded the minimum academic requirements for this honor as he owns a perfect 4.0 GPA through three years as a mechanical engineering major.

On the field this past spring, Mueller caused 22 turnovers and picked up 19 ground balls while anchoring a Spartan defense which ranked 15th in Division III in scoring defense (8.00 gpg). The junior also racked up the accolades due to his on-field prowess which included a USILA Honorable Mention All-American honor, the title of MAC Commonwealth Defenseman of the Year and a First Team All-MAC Commonwealth selection while the seventh-ranked Spartans captured the Commonwealth crown and advanced to the NCAA Quarterfinals.

Mueller is just the second member of the York men's lacrosse program to earn Academic All-American honors, joining Tyler Hutson '15 who earned a third-team selection in 2014 and a second-team selection in 2015. In total, 22 Spartan men and women have earned selection to the Academic All-America Team dating as far back as 1986. Mueller is now just the eighth individual to earn a First Team honor.

Additionally, Mueller was one of just three representatives from the Middle Atlantic Conference to land on the CSC NCAA Division III Men's At-Large Academic All-America Team as he was joined by volleyball standout Jake Erby (Second Team) from Messiah and lacrosse standout Luke Lesizza (Third Team) of Stevens.
