#6 Spartan Men’s Lacrosse Closes Season in National Quarterfinals at #1 Tufts

Bergmann and Fisher Establish New Single-Season Point Record with 97

MEDFORD, Mass. - The sixth-ranked York men's lacrosse team saw their 17-game win streak and season halted in the NCAA Quarterfinals on Saturday with a 22-9 loss at No. 1 Tufts.

The Jumbos rushed out to a 9-0 lead in the first 10 minutes of play and racked up eight more in the third quarter to stave off any hopes of a Spartan second half comeback bid.

Team Records
#6 York: 20-2
#1 Tufts: 20-1

How It Happened
The Jumbos started out at breakneck pace as they ripped off five unanswered goals in a span of just 3:07 of game time which led to a 9-0 run through the first 10:07 of play. The Spartans gained a little traction late in the first quarter as Nate Schilling tallied a pair in the final two minutes and Gavin Gismondi scored a buzzer beater. Cory Bergmann netted the first goal of the second quarter four minutes into the period which cut the Tufts lead to 10-4 and would end up being the smallest deficit for York  on the day.

After owning a 13-5 halftime lead, the Jumbos put down the hammer in the third quarter as they racked up eight goals on 15 shots while holding the Spartans to one tally on just four shots as York committed eight turnovers.

York's big guns, Bergmann, Davis Fisher and Gismondi, scored the final three goals of the game. Bergmann and Fisher finished all even in the race for the single-season point record with 97 points each.
