Klemm Becomes York Women’s Swimming First All-American

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - York College senior Isabella Klemm made history on Friday at the NCAA Division III Swimming & Diving Championships by becoming the first female swimmer in school history to earn All-American status as she finished sixth in the 100 breaststroke.

Klemm punctuated her performance with a personal-best time of 1:02.22 which lowered both her own school record and Middle Atlantic Conference record. 

The Spartan senior secured First Team All-American status with a sixth-place finish and a time of 1:02.57 in the Friday morning prelims. The top-16 finishers from the prelims qualify for All-American honors with 1-8 earning first-team and 9-16 earning second-team accolades.

Klemm out-performed her seed time of 1:02.42 which had her ranked ninth heading into the event. She also topped her performance from last year in which she finished 18th at a pace of 1:03.31, missing out on a top-16 All-American cut by .14 seconds.

Kelsey Van Eldik of Kenyon won the event with a time of 1:00.10, followed by Katie Cohen (Emory) in second with a time of 1:01.26. Drue Thielking (Denison) and Alicia Soosai (Chicago) finished tied for third with matching times of 1:02.02.

Klemm joins Kyle Walthall and Keven Stahl as the only three York College swimmers to earn All-America honors. Walthall finished his career as a six-time All-American from 2014 to 2016 and won the 100 breaststroke national title in 2016. Stahl earned a trio of All-America honors from 2018 to 2019

The Spartan will return to the pool on Saturday for her final collegiate competition as she is set to compete in the 200 breaststroke Saturday's preliminary session will start at 10 a.m. with the evening finals set for 6 p.m. at the IU Natatorium in Indianapolis, Ind.
