Fripp's Big Weekend Leads York to a Fourth Place Finish

Jacob Fripp continues his strong start to his senior season

WILLIAMSPORT, PA – The York College men's golf team had a strong showing at the Northeast Elite Tournament over the last two days at Williamsport Country in Williamsport, PA.
 
The Spartans finished tied for fourth of 16 teams in the tournament along with Dickinson College. The Spartans shot 305 on Sunday and then went low on Monday with a 290. York moved up four spots in the standings with Monday's effort on the course. The 290 was the second-best score of the tournament on day two.
 
The University of Rochester won the team tournament title with a score of 577. The Yellow Jackets edged Gettysburg by one stroke while McDaniel was in third with 580. York and Dickinson rounded out the top five teams in the tournament.
 
Senior Jacob Fripp was outstanding during the tournament as he tied for fifth with a score of 143. Fripp shot a four-over-par 75 on Sunday and then went off with a three-under 69 on Monday.
 
Fripp's Sunday round saw him shoot a two-over-par 38 on the front nine. He matched that with a trio of bogeys and one birdie for a two-over 37 on the inward nine. On Monday, Fripp got off to a great start with three birdies, a double and two pars in the first six holes of his round as he shot 35 on the front. Fripp kept rolling on the back nine with a two under par 33 for his 68. He had three birdies, a bogey and five pars. Fripp now has two top ten finishes in three tournaments this year.
 
York then had three Spartans shoot identical tournament scores of 151 to finish tied for 29th in the 90-player field. Thomas O'Connell, Adam Gorman, and Alex Kaun were the threesome that ended up tied. O'Connell shot 77 on Sunday and trimmed three strokes off that total on Monday with a 74. Gorman carded a 78 on Sunday and then played well on Monday with a two-over-par 73. Gorman moved up 23 spots in the individual standings after his Monday performance. Kaun was very consistent over the weekend with a 76 on Sunday followed by a 75 on Monday.
 
Nate Myers was York's fifth tournament participant as he finished tied for 80th with a two-day score of 164. Myers shot 77 on Sunday but had an 87 on Monday. Alex Koch represented York as an individual player as he finished 84th with a score of 169. Koch shot 82 on Sunday followed by an 87 on Monday.
 
The Spartans return to action on Saturday, October 11 at the two-day Mason-Dixon Collegiate Invitational at the Waynesboro Country Club in Waynesboro, PA. The Saturday action begins at 11:00 am while Sunday's round begins at 9:00 am.
