Men’s Golf Captures Third-Straight Commonwealth Crown

FLEETWOOD, Pa. - The York College men's golf team finished first out of six teams with four all-conference performers at the MAC Commonwealth Men's Golf Championship as the two-round tournament wrapped on Sunday at Golden Oaks Golf Club.

The Spartans captured their third-straight Commonwealth title and fourth overall since joining the league in 2021 with a total score of 603 (+27). York edged out Stevenson (605) by two strokes overall and three in the second round. Albright (626) came in third, followed by Hood (629), Alvernia (639)  and Eastern (690).

York came from behind to win the title as they trailed Stevenson by one stroke through round one. The Spartans remained in second through the first nine holes of round two, but closed strong and combined to shoot just two-over par in the final nine to overtake the Mustangs.

Sophomore Adam Gorman led the way for York as he finished tied for second which earned him First Team All-Commonwealth honors. The sophomore finished three-over par for the tournament with a 147 and posted a 70 (-2) in round two which stood as the lowest single-round score of the tournament. Gorman led the Spartans with six birdies on the weekend and posted five of them as part of his illustrious round performance.

Senior Nate Myers also nabbed First Team All-Commonwealth honors as he finished tied for fourth with a pair of 75s for a total score of 150 (+6). Finished one over on his final nine holes and carded a key birdie on the 18th hole after posting a double bogey the day before.

Senior Jacob Fripp garnered Second Team All-Commonwealth honors and will end his career as a two-time all-conference performer after finishing sixth on Sunday. The defending individual champion posted a 77 (+5) on Saturday, but rebounded with a 75 (+3) on Sunday and posted a pair of birdies on the final nine to help lead the Spartan comeback. Fripp has now been in the lineup for three Commonwealth team title winning performances throughout his decorated career.

Freshman Luke Sabina also earned a Second Team All-Commonwealth nod after finishing tied for eighth overall with a total score of 154 (+10). The rookie rebounded from a 79 on day with a 75 on Sunday and finished one over par on the final nine holes, including a key birdie on the 18th which helped the Spartans seal the team crown.

Junior Thomas O'Connell rounded out the Spartan lineup in a tie for 23rd place with a total score of 163 (+19). The junior had a tough round one as he carded an 84 to finish 12 over par, but he fought back on Sunday and picked up five strokes to finish with a 79.

By winning the Commonwealth crown, the Spartans earned automatic qualification to the NCAA Division III Men's Golf Championship which will take place May 12-15 at Mission Resort + Club in Howey-in-the-Hills, Fla.
