Men’s Golf Concludes Nationals Stay After Round Two

HOWEY-IN-THE-HILLS, Fla. - The York College men's golf team finished 34th out of 43 teams following the conclusion of two rounds on Wednesday at the NCAA Division III Men's Golf Championship played at Mission Resort & Club in Howey-in-the-Hills, Fla.

A weather delay on Tuesday forced the Spartans off the course when they were halfway through round one. They resumed play Wednesday morning and also played a full second round in the afternoon. York scored a round one score of 303 on the par-71 Las Colinas Course and carded a second round score 317 on the par-72 El Campeon Course for a total 36-hole score of 620 (+48). The Spartans missed out on the 18-team cut line which came in at 26-over par.

Sophomore Adam Gorman led York in 88th place out of 225 players as he carded a total score of 150 to finish seven over par. Gorman was one under par midway through the first round with three birdies and wound up shooting a 73 (+2). He then fired a 77 (+5) on Wednesday afternoon with a pair of birdies on the back nine.

Junior Thomas O'Connell and freshman Luke Sabina finished tied for 171st with matching total scores of 158 to finish 15 over par. O'Connell was even through his first 10 holes and finished round one with a 75 (+4) as he carded three birdies, but fell off the pace in his second round as he scored a 83 (+11). Sabina fired an 80 (+9) on his first round and rebounded with a 78 (+6) on round two as he carded four birdies.

Senior Jacob Fripp capped his collegiate career by finishing 177th with a total score of 159 (+16). Fripp finished just one over par on the back nine of the first round to card a 75 (+4). The senior closed out his career by scoring even par on his five holes to finish the second round with an 84 (+12).

Senior Nate Myers finished his Spartan career by finishing 204th with a 36-hole score of 163 (+20). Myers posted an 84 (+13) on his opening round, but rebounded with a 79 (+7) in round  two and finished just three over par on the back nine of his final collegiate round.

Illinois Wesleyan leads the way heading into the final two rounds with a 36-hole score of 567 (-5) after going nine-under par on round two. Ryan Dunn (Oglethorpe) leads the player leaderboard with a total score of 137 (-6).
