LEWISBURG, PA – The York College men's golf squad finished tied for eighth at the two-day Gauntlet tournament at the Bucknell Golf Club in Lewisburg, PA.
The Spartans finished tied with SUNY Oswego for eighth with a tournament total of 607. The Spartans played well on Sunday with a team score of 299 as they were fifth. The scuffled a little bit on Monday with a score of 308. Oswego shot 300 and 307 to earn their eighth-place finish.
Drew won the team title as they shot a total of 572. Farmingdale State was five strokes back in second followed by F&M in third with 580 strokes. McDaniel placed fourth at 582 while Mount Aloysius rounded out the top five with a score of 595.
York was led by junior
Thomas O'Connell as he finished tied for sixth with a tournament score of 142. O'Connell had a great first round with a three-under 67 on Sunday. He had a career-high seven birdies in Sunday's round as he was second overall after day one. O'Connell followed his first round with a five-over-par 75.
Drew's Elliot Parker cruised to the individual championship with matching rounds of 66 for a total of 132. Farmingdale State's Phillip Connolly was second with a score of 139.
Senior
Jacob Fripp was York's next finisher as he tied for 25
th in the tournament field. Fripp shot 151 for the tournament. He began the tournament with a four-over-par 74 on Sunday. Fripp followed that with a seven-over-par 77.
Freshman
Alex Kaun was York's third finisher in the tournament. He finished tied for 39
th with a two-day score of 154. Kaun fired an eighth-over 78 on Sunday. He made a two-stroke improvement on Monday with a 76.
Senior
Nate Myers and sophomore
Alex Koch rounded out the Spartans' five tournament participants as they each tied for 58
th place with a score of 160. Myers shot matching 80's in his two tournament rounds. Koch also shot matching 80's en route to his score of 160.
The Spartans return to action this weekend when they head to Williamsport, PA to take part in the D3 Northeast Elite Invitational at the Williamsport Country Club. The two-day tournament kicks off Sunday at 10:00 am.
