Garabo Named IWLCA Division III Goalie of the Year for the Third Time

Spartan grad goalie Bella Garabo was named the nation's top netminder

YORK, PA – For the third consecutive year, York College women's lacrosse goalie Bella Garabo was named the IWLCA National Division III Goalie of the Year.

Garabo is the first Spartan to earn the award multiple times and is the first three-time IWLCA positional player of the year since 2016.

Garabo led the Spartans to a record 18-4, their fourth straight MAC Commonwealth championship, and a berth in the NCAA Division III Quarterfinals. The 18 wins ties a school record for the Green and White.

Spartan head coach Jen Muston is thrilled to see her grad goalie honored with the national award again.

"Bella departs our program as the most distinguished and accomplished player we have ever had.  She has cemented her legacy not only here at York College, but in Division III women's lacrosse as one of the all-time greats," said Muston.

"She raised the bar for our competitive standard and she leaves York lacrosse in a better place than when she arrived. To earn DIII Goalie of the Year three seasons in a row, is unprecedented.  It speaks to her work ethic, determination, mental toughness, and her sheer ability to step up to the plate and simply perform day in and out. I am honored to have coached her and to have been a part of her journey. I am incredibly proud of her for all that she has achieved and the young woman she has become.  She loves this program, loves her teammates, and loves the game. Her legacy here will remain for years to come."

Garabo finished the year with a record of 17-4 in 21 starts for the Spartans. She played 1,039:49 in net with a 7.91 goals against average and a save percentage of .529. Garabo recorded 154 saves while she allowed 137 goals during the year. She faced 378 shots during the course of the year.

Garabo, who was named the MAC Commonwealth Goalie of the Year for the third time earlier in the spring, recorded double figures in saves in nine games including a brilliant 15-save effort in the Spartans' third round NCAA Tournament win over William Smith. Those 15 saves set a new York College NCAA Tournament game record.

Garabo finished fourth in the country in save percentage and 19th in goals per game.

For her career, Garabo finished with a record of 59-19, a save percentage of .529, a goals against average of 7.61 and 600 total saves. She played in 94 games and 4,219:23 minutes during her Spartan tenure.

Garabo finished her career as a three-time first-team IWLCA All-American, a four-time IWLCA All-Region V pick, a four-time MAC All-Commonwealth selection, and a three-time MAC All-Commonwealth Goalie of the Year.

The Spartans finished fifth in Division III in save percentage and 11th in the country in scoring defense at 7.00 goals per game against.

Garabo is the first Division III player to earn IWLCA Positional Player of the Year honors in three different years since 2016. There are five other players who have earned the honor twice during their careers as William Smith's Maddie Montgomery (2023 and 2024), Middlebury's Jane Earley (2022 and 2023), Tufts Molly Laliberty (2022 and 2023), Franklin and Marshall's Paige Moriarity (2016 and 2018) and TCNJ's Elizabeth Morrison (2016 and 2018) are the previous two-time honorees.
