Clauter Named IWLCA Outstanding Assistant Coach

NORTHBOROUGH, Mass. - York College women's lacrosse assistant coach Nicky Clauter has been named one of three recipients of the 2025 Outstanding Assistant Coach Awards handed out by the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA).

This distinguished honor annually recognizes exceptional assistant coaches across all three NCAA divisions for their significant contributions to their programs. These coaches have demonstrated outstanding dedication, hard work, and sportsmanship, making a distinct impact on the success of their teams. They will be formally recognized at the Awards Luncheon on November 19 during the 2025 IWLCA Convention.

"It is truly an honor to receive the IWLCA Division III Outstanding Assistant Coach award," said Clauter. "I am very fortunate to have great mentors at York and I'm grateful for having the opportunity to learn from them. I treasure my eight years as a player and then a coach at York."

Since joining the staff for the 2022 season, Clauter has been instrumental in every facet of the program. She oversees the defense, goalies, draw circle players, and manages on-field strategies, including playing time, substitutions, and individual skill development. Her leadership extends to film sessions, team and individual training, and mentoring players on leadership, mental toughness, and academics.

Clauter's influence extends far beyond coaching. She leads recruiting efforts for incoming players, coordinates campus visits and tournaments, manages travel logistics, organizes meals, and oversees game-day operations. She has been pivotal in building strong relationships with recruits, alumni, and staff, ensuring both competitive success and a supportive team culture. Her dedication to academics has helped the team maintain a grade-point average above 3.4 over the past four years, with numerous players receiving individual academic honors.

"She has continually gone above and beyond, often putting the team first even while working part-time on a small stipend," said Spartan head coach Jen Muston. "When I was sidelined due to surgery in 2024, Nicky assumed the role of acting head coach, managing every aspect of the program with skill, care, and professionalism. She has been indispensable to our team's success."

Under her Clauter's guidance, the Spartan program has achieved consistent success, including an 18-4 overall record and a 7-0 conference record in 2025, while winning their fourth-consecutive Commonwealth title and advancing all the way to the NCAA Quarterfinals. Throughout her tenure on the sidelines, York has been consistently ranked inside the IWLCA top-25 with several stints in the top-10. Since 2022, the Spartans have amassed an overall record of 65-21 (.756 win %) and a conference record of 30-0 to go along with four conference titles and four trips to the NCAA postseason with a pair of quarterfinal round appearances.

Clauter has also coached some of the program's most decorated players, including Bella Garabo who was dubbed a three-time IWLCA DIII Goalie of the Year. During her tenure the Spartans have accumulated nine IWLCA All-American selections, 19 IWLCA All-Region selections, seven Commonwealth positional player-of-the-year awards and 29 Commonwealth all-conference selections. Additionally, York has garnered four Academic All-American honors and 14 Academic All-MAC selections since 2022.

A former IWLCA Division III Defender of the Year, Clauter compiled an illustrious player career for the Green and White from 2016-19. She was tabbed a three-time First Team IWLCA All-American, a three-time IWLCA All-Region honoree, a two-time Capital Athletic Conference Player of the Year and a four-time All-Capital Athletic Conference selection. She also helped deliver the program's first conference title when they captured the 2019 Capital Athletic Conference crown and powered the Spartans to four-consecutive NCAA postseason appearances. Clauter's name is all over the Spartan record book and she still holds records for career starts (83) and career draw controls (335).
