Spartan Women Split Home Tri-Match to Cap Regular Season

YORK, Pa. - The York women's wrestling team went 1-1 against Lock Haven and Delaware Valley in a home tri-match on Sunday to close out the regular season.

How It Happened
The Spartans opened the day with a 36-8 setback to Lock Haven as the Bald Eagles won eight bouts including seven bonus-point wins and a forfeit. Outside of a forfeit victory at 110 lbs., Maura White claimed the only other victory for the Spartans. White scored a pair of takedowns as she rolled to an 8-1 victory over Paige Jackson at 138 lbs.

In their second match of the day, the Spartans rallied back from an early deficit to claim a 28-13 victory over Delaware Valley. York won six bouts including four with bonus points in addition to a forfeit. 

The Aggies sandwiched victories at 103 and 117 around a Daisey Hawkins fall (0:35) at 110 which put DVU in an 8-6 lead.

After a double forfeit at 124, ripped off three-straight wins to take a 17-10 lead. Lexi Mazzella started the Spartan run with a dominant 16-4 technical fall at 131 and White tacked on more bonus points for York with a 10-0 technical fall of her own. Kylie Monroe capped the run with a pair of takedowns in an 8-1 victory 145 over Olivia Kinder.

After an Aggie victory at 160 which cut the York lead to five, Allison Brandt sealed the dual for York with a fall in the final minute of her bout at 180 with Emma Helverson.

Maura White went 2-0 in both dual matches with a decision and a technical fall as she improved to 28-7 overall and capped her dual record at 9-2 … Daisey Hawkins went 3-0 on the day with a forfeit and a fall, plus technical fall in an exhibition bout as she improved to 15-15 overall and ended the dual season 10-2 … the Spartans more than doubled their dual win total from year one to year to as they went from 4-4 last season to 9-3 this season.
