Friday Jr. Joins Wagner's Spartan Men's Basketball Staff

Don Friday Jr. inked as the program's top assistant coach for 2025-26

YORK, Pa. - Head coach Jared Wagner and the York College men's basketball program are proud to announce the addition of Don Friday Jr. as the program's full-time top assistant coach for the start of the 2025-26 season.

"I am thrilled to have Donny join our staff as our top assistant. He has done a fantastic job in his first month-and-a-half with the program of connecting our guys and hitting the ground running from a scheme perspective," said Wagner. "Donny has impressed me with his work ethic on the recruiting trail and that will only be enhanced here on our staff. He knows what it takes to be successful having been a player and coach at Penn State Harrisburg where they've been a tremendously successful program over the last 10 seasons. I'm excited to have Donny on staff as a Spartan!"

Friday comes to York after serving as an assistant coach on the Penn State Harrisburg staff and is looking forward to the opportunity to take the next step in his young career with the Green and White.

"I am excited to be joining the York College Men's Basketball Coaching staff. I am grateful to Coach Wagner for believing and entrusting me to help lead his program. I have so much respect and admiration for the York College Men's Basketball Program and Coach Wagner, he embodies everything that a York Spartan stands for. I look forward to continuing to build on the winning culture, tradition of excellence, and the great foundation that Coach Wagner has helped build here at York. Go Spartans!"

After a four-year playing career and graduating from Penn State Harrisburg in 2023, Friday spent two seasons as an assistant on the Lions' coaching staff. In his first season on staff, the Lions won a program-record 25 games, captured the United East Championship and made their third NCAA Tournament appearance in program history punctuated by a first-round victory over Hood. The next season in 2024-25, Harrisburg compiled 18 victories and reached the semifinal round of the United East Championship Tournament. The Lions were especially strong on the glass, securing an NCAA Statistical Championship in rebounding margin (13.5).

As a student-athlete at Harrisburg, Friday appeared in nearly 40 games during his career, was a key reserve on two NCAA Tournament teams (2020, 2022) and was also consistently successful in the classroom, as he was named to the NABC Honors Court three times.

Friday comes from a collegiate basketball coaching blood line. His father, Donald Friday Sr., has served as the head coach at Penn State Harrisburg for 13 seasons with prior head coaching stops at Saint Francis University (Pa.) and Lycoming College.
