WAYNESBORO, PA – The York College men's golf team finished sixth of 18 teams at the Mason-Dixon Collegiate Invitational on Sunday at the Waynesboro Country Club in Waynesboro, PA.
The Spartans finished the tournament shooting 590 as a squad. York shot 299 on Saturday and then made an eight-shot improvement with a 291 on Sunday.
McDaniel won the tournament with a team score of 582, edging the host Gettysburg Bullets by one stroke for the tournament title. Dickinson finished third at 584.
Senior
Jacob Fripp led the way for the Spartans as he tied for 15th in the field with a tournament total of 147. Fripp shot a six-over-par 78 during Saturday's first round. He bounced back with a three-under-par 69 on Sunday. In the second round, Fripp had birdies on holes one and two as he shot a two-under 34 on the front. He had one bogey but then two birdies as he shot 35 on the back nine.
Junior
Alexander Jolakian made his first start of the year a memorable one as he tied with Fripp for 15
th with a 147. Jolakian shot a two-over-par 74 on Saturday and then followed that with a one-over-par 73 on Sunday. The 73 was a career-low round for the junior. On Sunday, Jolakian opened the front nine with a two-under 34. He shot a three-over on the back for his 73.
Freshman
Alex Kaun was the next Spartan finisher as he tied for 20
th with a score of 148. Kaun shot an even par 72 on Saturday to get off to a good start. Kaun then was four-over on Sunday with a 76 for the Green and White.
Junior
Thomas O'Connell was York's fourth scorer for the tournament as he tied for 29
th in the 95 player field. He finished the weekend with a score of 150 as O'Connell shot matching 75's for the weekend. O'Connell finished the weekend with a flourish as he birdied three of his final five holes of his Sunday round.
Freshman
Luke Sabina was York's fifth tournament participant. Sabina carded an 83 in his first collegiate round on Saturday. He made a nine-shot improvement on Sunday with a two-over-par 74. Sabina tied for 51
st with a score of 157.
The Spartans wrap up their fall campaign next week as the Green and White hosts the York College Fall Invitational at Royal Manchester Golf Links in Manchester, PA. The two day tournament kicks off Sunday, October 19 at 10:00 am. Monday's second round is set for a 9:00 am start in Manchester.
