Women’s Wrestling Finishes Third at PA Championships

EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. - The York women's wrestling team finished third out of 16 teams at the Pennsylvania Collegiate Women's Championships hosted by East Stroudsburg University on Sunday.

No. 15 East Stroudsburg (94 pts.) won the team title with seven individual champions. Ursinus (76.5 pts.) finished second, followed by York (62 pts.), No. 23 Gannon (60.5 pts.), and Delaware Valley (59 pts.) to round out the top five.

The Spartans had nine wrestlers finish top-six in their respective weight classes including five finishing inside the top-three.

Sophomore Allison Brandt led the way for York with a second-place finish at 180 lbs. Brandt went 2-1 on the day technical fall and a fall before losing to Isabella Phillips (Gannon) in the title bout. Brandt is now 14-9 this season and has placed fifth or better in three events this season.

Four different Spartans captured third place in their respective weight classes which included junior Lexi Mazzella (131 lbs.), sophomore Maura White (138 lbs.), newcomer Kylie Monroe (160 lbs.) and sophomore Emma Lavalle (207 lbs.).

Mazzella went 3-1 and ended her day by pinning Gabrielle Baker (ESU) to improve to 15-8 on the year. White went 4-1 and ended her day with back-to-back wins after falling in the semifinals as she sits at 26-7 this season. In her first competition in a York singlet, Monroe went 4-1 with three falls and a technical fall, and suffered her only loss of the day to fifth-ranked Tiffani Baublitz (ESU) in the semifinal round. Lavalle went 3-1 with all three wins via fall as she improved to 15-10 on the season with 10 falls.

Daisey Hawkins (110 lbs.) and Kaylyn Adair (160 lbs.) each nabbed fourth place in their brackets. Hawkins went 1-2 on the day with a fall and Adair went 3-2 with all three wins via fall.

Barbara Hartman captured fifth place at 131 lbs. in her return from an early season injury. Hartman went 4-2 on the day with all four wins via fall as she now has six on the season with a record of 6-4.

Finley Hall went 2-2 to capture sixth place at 103 lbs. Chloe Gross (103 lbs.) and Jada Stoneberg (131 lbs.) each finished tied for seventh in their respective weight classes.

The Spartans will return to the mats on Sunday, February 9 in a home tri-match with Lock Haven and Delaware Valley to close out the regular season.
