Women’s Wrestling Takes Second at Will Abele Invite

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. - The York women's wrestling team finished second out of 16 teams with six place winners at the Will Abele Invitational hosted by Ursinus College on Saturday.

Freshman Gisele Ramirez led the way for the Spartans as she finished first in the 117-pound bracket. Ramirez went 4-0 on the day with three falls and knocked off top-seed Olivia Palmer (ESU) with a first-period fall in the title bout. Ramirez is now 25-2 on the season and extended her win streak to 11-straight.

Sophomore Maura White captured second place at 138 lbs. as she went 4-1 with three falls and fell to top-seed Tanya Teneva (WNE) in the finals. White is now 22-6 overall this season and has back-to-back 20-win seasons to start her career.

Sophomore Emma Lavalle went 1-2 and captured fourth place at 207 lbs. Lavalle is now 12-10 overall this season.

Sophomore Allison Brandt took fifth at 180 lbs. The top-seeded Spartan battled back from an opening round loss to win twice as she finished 2-1 on the day with a fall and a technical fall. Brandt is now 12-8 on the season.

Senior Chloe Gross and freshman Finley Hall tied for fifth place at 103 lbs. as they settled for a no contest in the fifth-place bout. Gross went 1-1 on the day and is 9-10 overall this season, while Hall is now 5-8 overall after also going 1-1 on the day.

The Spartans return to the mats next Sunday at the PA Collegiate State Championships hosted by East Stroudsburg University.
