WINCHESTER, VA – The York College women's track & field finished second of eight teams at the Kaye & JJ Smith Invitational hosted by Shenandoah University on Sunday. The meet kicks off the spring semester portion of the indoor campaign.
York totaled 96.5 points as they finished behind District of Columbia who accumulated 133 points to win the team title. Shenandoah finished third with 93 points while Eastern Mennonite was fourth with 84 points.
The Spartans got their lone win from freshman pole vaulter
Alita Paragon as she won the event with a best height of 3.00. That's the first career win for Paragon.
Hailey Sherwood recorded a second-place finish for York with a runner-up performance in the weight throw with a distance of 13.88 meters. Teammate
Zoe Myers was right behind Sherwood as she finished third in the weight throw with a distance of 11.72 meters.
The Spartans were great in the throws during the day Sunday. In the weight throw, Sherwood and Myers led the way followed by
Kaitlin King in fourth and
Zada Marine in sixth. In the shot put, Marine finished fourth, followed by King (5
th), Myers (7
th) and Sherwood (8
th).
The Spartans had five fourth place finishers as
Isabella Bankert (60 hurdles),
Isabel Tenney (one mile run), and
Isabella Ewing (triple jump), in addition to King and Marine, each recorded fourths for the Green and White. Ewing also had a sixth-place finish in the long jump.
Senior
Payton Mann eared a pair of top eight-place finishes with a fifth-place finish in the 400 meter run and a seventh place finish in the 200 meter dash.
Kayla Reidenbaugh had a sixth in the 400 and a seventh in the one mile run. Junior
Keziah Boyce also recorded a pair of top eight finishes as she placed sixth in the 200 meter dash and eighth in the 60 meter dash.
York finished with 28 top eight finishers on the day.
