Four Spartan Women Place at New Standard Invitational

YORK, Pa. - The Spartan women's wrestling team finished eighth out of 15 teams with four place winners including two finalists at the New Standard Invitational hosted by York College on Saturday.

Western New England won the team title with 38 points, followed by Ursinus (28), Baldwin Wallace (20), Delaware Valley (17) and New England College (15) in the top-five.

Atiyana Williams from WNE earned Most Outstanding Wrestlers honors after winning the 160-pound title with four falls.

Freshman Gisele Ramirez (110) and sophomore Maura White (138) both made finals appearances for York in their respective weight classes and both came away with second-place finishes. Freshman Daisey Hawkins (110) and sophomore Emma Lavalle (207) each finished sixth in their weight classes.

Ramirez put together the most dominant performance of the day for the Spartans as she pinned her way to the finals with three-straight falls before seeing her run come to an end with a 12-2 loss to Izabella Frezzo (NJCU). White racked up a pair of pins to start the day and added a 11-3 victory over Emma Hanrahan (Mount Union) in the semifinals before coming up short in a 9-4 defeat to Tanya Teneva (WNE) in the finals.

Ramirez has finished second in each tournament appearance this season.

Hawkins had an up-and-down day as she went 2-3 with a fall and a technical fall. Lavalle won her first match of the day on criteria, but then dropped three-straight as she finished 1-3 on the day.

Other notable performers for the Spartans included senior Chloe Gross (103) who went 2-2 with a fall and technical fall and sophomore Allison Brandt (180) who also went 2-2 with a pair of falls.

The Spartans return to the mats on December 15 at the Hiram Terrier Duals.
