HOWEY-IN-THE-HILLS, FLORIDA – The York College women's golf team completed their first round of the 2023 NCAA Division III National Championship Tournament at the Mission Hill Resort & Club in Howey-in-the-Hills, Florida.
The Spartans are 22
nd of 29 teams after the first round as they shot a team score of 352. York is one stroke back of 21
st and six strokes out of the top 20. York started their day on the back nine as hole number ten was their first of the day.
Second-ranked Emory University leads the team standings at 315, three strokes ahead of George Fox University. Wash U and Carnegie Mellon are tied for third at 319 while top-ranked University of Redlands are fifth at 320.
The Spartans were led by freshman
Tori Blanc as she shot an 86 in her first NCAA Tournament round. Blanc had two very different nines as she shot 47 on the back followed by a solid three-over-par 39. Blanc is tied for 72
nd in the 151-player field.
Freshman
Jessica Shay had a strong showing as she shot 88 in her first tournament round. Shay shot 43 on her first nine and followed that with a 45 as she tied for 94
th place.
Senior
Natalie Robson started her round off with a 43 on her first nine and followed that with a 46 on her second nine for a total of 89. That ties Robson for 97
th in the tournament. Freshman
Grace Strickland was York's fourth scorer in the opening round as she carded a 90. Strickland shot matching 45's on the round.
Freshman
Vivian D'Orazi was York's fifth scorer as she fired a 95 for the Green and White.
The Spartans return to action on Tuesday morning in round two. The Spartans start going off at 8:40 with D'Orazi. Robson is the final Spartan start on Wednesday as she tees off at 9:20.
