HOWEY-IN-THE-HILLS, FLA – The York College women's golf team continued their stay at the 2023 NCAA Division III National Championship tournament on Wednesday in Florida. The Spartans were fortunate to be in the early flight for round two as there were six teams who were unable to complete their round due to a two-hour weather delay in the afternoon.
The Spartans moved up one spot in the overall team standings as they are 21
st with a two-day score of 691. The Green and White had a much better round two as their Wednesday score was 15 strokes better than their opening round effort.
The Spartans are currently 37 strokes behind the cut line of 15
th place. That cut will occur at the conclusion of the third round on Thursday afternoon. That cut line could move as NYU, the 15
th place team, still has holes remaining on Thursday morning as they were one of the teams affected by the weather delay.
George Fox currently leads the team standings with a score of 629 followed by Claremont Mudd Scripps (634), Pomona-Pitzer 638), Emory (639), Wash U (639) and Carnegie Mellon (639).
Freshman
Tori Blanc had another great day as she fired a 78 as she sits tied for 50
th in the tournament. Blanc shot a three-over-par 39 on the front and a two-over 39 on the back for her 78. Blanc moved up 22 spots in the individual standings as she was eight shots better than the first round.
Senior
Natalie Robson put together a better round on Wednesday as well. She shot an 83 as she fired a four-over 40 on the front followed by a six-over 43 on the back nine. Robson moved up 12 spots on the individual leader board as she made a six-shot improvement on Wednesday.
Freshman
Jessica Shay continues to play well in her first NCAA Tournament as she shot a round two 87. Shay shot a six-over 42 on the front and followed that with a 45 on the back as she is tied for 97
th in the field.
Fellow freshman
Grace Strickland had a tough opening nine as she shot an uncharacteristic 47 on the front. She rebounded to shoot 43 on the back as she finished with a 90 as York's final scorer on the day.
Freshman
Vivian D'Orazi was York's final player on Wednesday. She finished the round with a score of 98 as she shot 48 on the front and 50 on the back.
The Spartans return to action for round three sometime Thursday afternoon. Their exact tee times will not be determined until the second round is complete. The start of the completion of the second round is slated to begin at 6:45 on Thursday morning.
