WILLIAMSBURG, VA – The York College women's golf squad opened up their spring campaign with a second-place finish at The Rukus Tournament at the Williamsburg National Golf Club in Williamsburg, VA.
The Spartans shot a two-day total of 673 as they totaled 329 on Saturday followed by a 344 on Sunday. York finished 34 strokes back of team champion Adrian as the Bulldogs fired a two-day total of 639.
The Spartans were led by freshman
Tori Blanc as she placed third with a two-day total of 161. Blanc fired a tournament best 75 in the opening round as she held a two-shot lead heading into Sunday. Blanc shot 86 on Sunday to finish four strokes back of tournament leaders Olivia Ohmer and Sara Bevington, both of Adrian. Ohmer won the tie-breaker over her teammate, earning the individual title.
Senior
Natalie Robson finished fifth in the tournament field with a tournament total of 167. Robson shot 84 on Saturday followed by an 83 on Sunday. Robson was ten shots back of first place.
Freshman
Jessica Shay was the next Spartan finisher as she finished tied for eighth overall. Shay posted a two-day total of 170 as she recorded a pair of 85's for the weekend. Freshman
Grace Strickland was the fourth Spartan scorer as she tied for 13
th overall. Strickland shot a day one 85 and followed that with a 91 for a two-day total of 176.
Freshman
Vivian D'Orazi was York's fifth tournament participant and she finished tied for 15
th overall. D'Orazi finished one stroke back of Strickland at 177. She shot 87 on Saturday followed by a 90 on Sunday.
The Spartans return to action on Friday, March 31 when they head to the Augustine Intercollegiate Invitational at the Augustine Golf Club. The two-day tournament kicks off at 12:00 pm on Friday. Saturday's second round is set for a 9:00 am start.
