HOWEY-IN-THE-HILLS, FLA – The York College women's golf team concluded their trip to the NCAA Division III Fall Preview on Monday in Florida.
The Spartans finished 17
th of 18 teams against one of the most competitive fields in the country during the fall campaign. York shot a two-day total of 670 as they fired a 333 on Sunday followed by a 337 on Monday. The Spartans feature one of the youngest teams in the nation as York features one senior and four freshmen in their starting lineup.
The University of Redlands won the team title with a two-day score of 605. Texas at Dallas finished second followed by Washington & Lee and Washington University-St. Louis while Carnegie Mellon and Methodist tied for fifth.
Senior
Natalie Robson led the way for York as she finished tied for 50
th in the field. Robson shot an 80 on Sunday and followed that with an 83 as she tied with four other players at 163. On Sunday, she was four-over on each nine for her 80. On Monday, she finished with seven pars and 11 bogeys on her way to the 83.
Freshmen
Tori Blanc and
Grace Strickland were the next two Spartan finishers as they tied for 55
th place at 164. Blanc fired matching 82's for her 164. Strickland shot 81 on Sunday followed by a Monday 83. Blanc was great on her Sunday opening nine as she was two-over-par. She went eight-over on her second nine to finish with the 82. On Monday, Blanc was six over on the front and four over on the back for her 82.
Strickland also got off to a good start on Sunday with a front nine 39. Things were a little harder on the second nine as she shot a seven-over 42 for her 81. Strickland played well on the first nine on Monday with a three-over 40 but had a rough stretch on the second nine with an eight-over 43.
Freshman
Jessica Shay was York's fourth finisher as she placed 90
th overall with a two-day total of 181. Shay shot 92 in the opening round but improved by three strokes in the second round for an 89. Fellow freshman
Brooke Zajac was York's fifth tournament participant as she finished 91
st with a score of 182. Zajac shot 90 on Sunday followed by a 92 on Monday.
The Spartans fly back to York on Monday night and then York will be back on the road for a weekend trip to the Williams Invitational in Williamstown, Massachusetts on Saturday and Sunday. The Saturday action is set for an 11:00 am start.
