Rohrbaugh, Farrow Capture Titles as Seven Spartans Place at Ned McGinley

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. - The eighth-ranked Spartan men's wrestling team opened the season with a fifth-place finish out of 11 teams and seven place winners at the Ned McGinley Invitational on Saturday at King's College.

York scored 110 points to finish well ahead of King's who finished sixth with 75.5 points. No. 7 Stevens (139.5 pts.) won the overall team title with three individual champions. No. 10 NYU (119 pts.) finished third, Wilkes (115.5 pts.) came in third and RIT (113 pts.) rounded out the top-four. 

No. 3 Dalton Rohrbaugh (133) and No. 2 Camden Farrow (197) led the way for York as they both defended their Ned McGinely titles from last year. Wilfred Jimenez (2nd - 133), No. 11 Jared Kuhns (3rd - 125), Jared Bair (3rd - 157), Nick Paolucci (6th - 149) and Josh Stahl (6th - 165) also landed on the podium.

Top-seed Rohrbaugh started his day with back-to-back falls against Timothy Routon (USMMA) and Christian Michaels (Waynesburg) before rolling to a 12-5 major decision over Logan Patterson (RIT) and edging out a 9-8 win over fifth-seed Nico Diaz (Stevens) in the semifinals. Rohrbaugh capped off the day with a win by forfeit in the championship bout against teammate Wilfred Jimenez.

Top-seed Farrow began the day with a fall (3:24) over Owen Vietmeier (Stevens) before a pair of decision wins over Zach Fultz (USMMA) and fourth-seed Spencer Fetrow (RWU). Farrow claimed the title with a convincing 6-0 win over Cameron Butka.

Jimenez had a strong start to the season as he landed on the podium for the third time in his career. The Spartan recorded upsets over second-seed Nick Germano (King's) and seven-seed Ryan Berstler (Penn Col.) on the day. Jimenez edged out Lee Rubin (RIT), 3-1, in the semifinals before forfeiting to Rohrbaugh in the final.

Second-seed Kuhns scored 17 points in his first two matches of the day in wins over Adam Albino (Wilkes) and Seth Russo (RIT). After falling to seventh-seed Taisei Kurachi (NYU), 7-2, Kuhns rallied back with a convincing 18-5 win over 13th-ranked Luke Hoerle (Stevens), followed by a fall (1:09) against eight-seed Ari Dinerman (RWU). Kuhns avenged his loss to Kurachi with a 6-3 victory to capture third place.

Second-seed Bair scored bonus points in his first three matches of the day against David Ras (RWU), Bret Murphy (King's) and Cullen Van Rooyen (Penn Col.). After falling, 9-3, to sixth-seed Hassan Khan (NYU), Bair rebounded with a fall (0:32) against Nikko Partsanakis (Wilkes) and capped off the day with a 7-4 win over Jason Smith (Stevens) to clinch third place.

Sixth-seed Paolucci started the day with three-straight wins before medically forfeiting his last three matches as he came away with sixth place. Paolucci out-scored his opponents 22-11 in his three wins.

Stahl started his day with a bang as he opened with a 21-6 technical fall over James Snyder (Stevens) and a 10-2 major decision against third-seed Jeremiah Oakes (Scranton). After falling to second-seed Harrison Hinojosa (Stevens), Stahl received back-to-back forfeits to capture sixth place.

The Spartans will return to the mats tomorrow at the Lycoming Invitational.
