How it happened
The Spartans wasted no time getting on the board as Jacob Wilhelm set up Dylan Wolf for his 27th goal of the season on York's opening possession. The scoring pace slowed for a stretch of six minutes as York got a few defensive stops with two saves by Jack Michael and a pair of caused turnovers by Ethan Greene.
Following the second Greene caused turnover, the junior long-pole scooped up the loose ball and netted his third goal of the season. Then, the Spartans scored less than two minutes later following an Albright turnover as Chandler Schmidt found the back of the net for the eighth time this season.
York went on to score two more goals in the last two minutes of the first quarter as Will Harnick found Eric Ranck in transition following Greene's third caused turnover of the quarter. Harnick then took it himself, notching a goal with 15 seconds left following an Albright turnover caused by Tyler Nation.
After being denied twice in the first three minutes of the second quarter by Lion goalie Liam Ferry, the Spartans found paydirt as Ames Clark cashed in for his sixth of the season. After five-and-half minutes of scoreless action, the Spartans got back on the board as Harnick caused a turnover and later found Wilhelm for his 10th tally of the season with 7:09 left in the half. York would go on to score three more times in the final four minutes with tallies by Clark, Nate Johnnie and Connor Madsen.
A pair of caused turnovers by Zach Mentzer in the final minute of the second quarter helped secure the first-half shutout. Michael notched six first-half saves while the Spartans held the Lions to a 5-for-17 performance in clearing attempts and forced 12 of Albright's 18 turnovers in the half.
Two new Spartan goal scorers joined the party early in the second half as Johnnie assisted fellow senior Gunnar Reynolds for his first tally of the season. Less than two minutes later, Ryan Sisitki took it himself and netted his third goal of the year.
After a pair of saves by Ian Callinan, Albright finally broke up the shoutout with 7:16 left in the third. York answered right back on the ensuing possession Michael Russo set up Cole Witman for his third tally of the year. The Lions tacked on one more goal with just over a minute left in the third quarter as Callinan racked up five saves in his 15 minutes of work.
Russo and Eric Evensen each joined the goal-scorer list with tallies early in the fourth quarter. Brendan O'Sullivan became the 15th different Spartan and fifth different senior goal scorer on the day when he cashed in on the extra-man advantage with 7:17 left. O'Sullivan extended his conference-leading goal total to 40 and his team-best man-up goal count to six.
