Spartan Men Remain Unbeaten With Road Win at Arcadia

GLENSIDE, PA – The sixth-ranked York College men's lacrosse team completed their season-high five game road trip with a resounding 22-10 MAC Crossover win over Arcadia on Wednesday night in Glenside, PA. The Spartans went 5-0 on the prolonged road swing as they outscored their five opponents 105-31.

York is now 6-0 overall while the Knights fall to 4-3 overall.

 

How It Happened

• The Spartans got off to another good start to the game. York got on the board less than three minutes into the game as Brendan O'Sullivan scored off a Dylan Wolf pass to get York started. The Spartans won the ensuing face off and Gavin Dembeck made it 2-0 on his first goal of the night. The Spartans would go on to outscore the Knights 7-0 in the first quarter. O'Sullivan had a big quarter with three goals while Dembeck added two others. Jacob Wilhelm and Connor Madsen each added single tallies in the quarter.

• York pushed the lead to 9-0 early in the second courtesy of goals from Eric Ranck and O'Sullivan. The Knights finally got on the board with 9:44 left in the quarter as Brian Albertsen found the back of the net for Arcadia. Wolf answered the Arcadia goal with his second of the game to give York the 10-1 advantage. Arcadia got a second goal from Jackson Earley but the Spartans ripped off three more goals in the final 5:05 of the half to take a 13-2 halftime advantage. Will Harnick, Dembeck and Wolf scored the last three goals of the first half.

• O'Sullivan opened the second half scoring just 49 seconds into the third quarter. After Arcadia got a Brady Manion goal, the Green and White ripped off three straight goals to push their advantage to 17-3. Arcadia outscored York 4-1 over the final 5:15 of the third quarter as York took a 18-7 lead to the final 15 minutes of play.

• York scored the first three goals of the fourth quarter as the lead grew to 21-7. Cole Witman, Ethan Locker, and Nate Johnnie each scored for York. Johnnie's goal was a man down goal, York's first man-down goal of the year. Arcadia scored three of the final four goals of the game to provide for York's final 12-goal margin of victory.

York was paced by another big day from senior Brendan O'Sullivan as he notched six points on five goals and an assist … O'Sullivan leads the team in points (26) and goals (23) … junior Gavin Dembeck had another strong game for York as he tied his Spartan career high with four points on three goals and one assist … Dembeck has 13 goals in his first season in the Green and White … junior Jack Michael picked up the win in goal as he improves to 29-5 all time in goal for York … senior Noah Bruno picked up a career-high seven ground balls in the win while he also won a career-high eight face offs in his 11 attempts … Vinny Facciponti went 12-for-14 at the X and also scooped up six ground balls … senior defender Ryan Kennedy continued his outstanding play with four caused turnovers and four ground balls … Kennedy has eight caused turnovers and seven ground balls in his last two games … freshman Ethan Fought notched a career-high with three points on a goal and two assists … York had 14 players score at least one goal in the win.

 

Notes

The meeting between the two programs was the first in program history … The Spartans are now 5-0 on the road and have won 16 straight away from Kinsley Field … York's last road loss came in the national quarterfinals at RIT on May 16, 2018 … overall the Spartans are 32-3 on the road in the last five seasons … York blanked Arcadia 7-0 in the first quarter and have now outscored their six opponents 36-4 in the opening 15 minutes of play … the Spartans put a season-high 49 shots on goal as Arcadia goalies made 27 saves in the loss … York went over 20 goals for the third time this season in the win … York allowed a season-high 10 goals in the victory … the Spartans scooped up a season-high 51 ground balls … York tied a season-low with 15 turnovers … York won a season-high 25 face offs while they converted 17-of-18 clears … goalie Jack Michael posted his 29th career win in goal for York … York has received goals from 24 different players during the year while four Spartans have reached double figures in points so far this year.

 

Up Next

The Spartans finally return home to kick off their April schedule. It's a month in which they will play five of their remaining seven games at Kinsley Field. York hosts Stevens in their final MAC Crossover game Saturday at 1:00 pm. The Ducks enter the game 4-1 as they have won four straight since opening the season with a loss to Stevenson.
