HOW IT HAPPENED

• The Spartans went on top early with two goals in the first quarter as Eric Ranck set up Gunnar Reynolds for the first tally on York's opening possession of the game. Ranck later connected with Brendan O'Sullivan with 5:42 left in the quarter as York took a 2-0 lead into the first intermission.

• The Bullets found their offense in the second quarter and ripped off three goals as the teams headed to the locker room tied, 3-3. Reynolds managed to put a tally on the board for York in the quarter as the Spartan offense was held in check by Gettysburg goalie Scott Macmillan who made 6 saves in the quarter.

• Gettysburg broke open a 5-3 lead early in the third quarter on the heels of a 4-0 run, but Chandler Schmidt tallied a pair of goals, including a tying goal with 3:47 left in the quarter, as the two sides ended the quarter in a 5-5 draw.

• York limited the Bullets to just six total shots in the third quarter, while the Spartans had an abundance of chances, but were stifled once again by Macmillan who racked up eight saves in the third quarter alone.

• After being denied four times by Macmillan to start the fourth quarter, O'Sullivan broke through with the go-ahead goal with 9:43 left in regulation. York dominated the time of possession over the next six minutes, but failed to tack on any insurance goals. Gettysburg caught a break on a Spartan turnover with 3:46 left and tallied the equalizer on the ensuing possession which would send the game into overtime.

• Both teams had multiple opportunities late in regulation, but both defenses stepped up in the critical moments. A costly penalty by York with 10 seconds left gave Gettysburg the momentum heading into overtime where the Bullets dominated the time of possession which ultimately resulted in a goal 1:11 into the period.
