Box Score LEXINGTON, VA – The York College men's lacrosse team opened their 2020 campaign with a 13-9 win over #12 Washington & Lee on Saturday afternoon in Lexington, VA. The retooled Spartans won thanks to a strong fourth quarter in which they outscored the Generals 4-0.

How It Happened
• The Spartans began the game with a pair of goals as Eric Ranck opened the season with York's first goal 1:26 into the game. Chandler Schmidt then made it 2-0 on a man-up goal at the 12:27 mark. The Generals got a Taylor Witherell goal at the 7:17 mark of the first quarter. The Spartans led 2-1 at the end of one quarter of play. The Spartans outshot the Generals 12-5 including a trio of shots off the pipe as the lead could have been greater.
• The teams traded goals for most of the second quarter as both squads tallied three goals. Jacob Wilhelm, Ranck, and Gunnar Reynolds scored for the Spartans as York took the 5-4 lead to the break.
• The third quarter was very high scoring. York took a 7-4 lead on goals from Will Harnick and Schmidt. The Generals ripped off four straight goals over a three minute span as Washington & Lee led 8-7 with 5:02 left in the third. Dylan Wolf tied the game with a goal at the 3:12 mark. Mike Weaver gave the Generals the lead back less than a minute later with his lone goal of the game. Schmidt struck for his third and final goal with just 11 seconds left in the third quarter as the teams were knotted at nine heading to the fourth quarter.
• Wolf gave the Spartans a lead for good as he found the back of the net off an assist from Ranck 1:53 into the fourth quarter. Wolf added a second goal in the quarter less than three minutes later as the lead grew to 11-9. Reynolds and Brendan O'Sullivan iced the game with goals a mere 20 seconds apart to secure the victory.

"I thought we played hard throughout the game," said Spartan head coach Brandon Childs. "We got sloppy at times during the game. It is just a reminder that we have a ton of things to work on but I thought our toughness and resilience really shined through during the game."
