How It Happened

• After trading goals to open the game, York went on a four-goal run, capped off by a Brendan O'Sullivan tally, to put the Spartans ahead, 5-1, with 6:05 left in the period. Lynchburg would get one back shortly after, but York received tallies from Eric Ranck and Jacob Wilhelm to end the first quarter with a commanding 7-2 lead.

• The second quarter got off to a quiet start before Chandler Schmidt broke the silence with a goal 5:37 into the quarter and tacked on another 45 seconds later on the man-advantage as York opened up a 9-2 lead. Schmidt would go on to tally his third goal of the quarter with four seconds left to send York into the locker room ahead, 12-4. The Spartans also received a stellar performance from J.T. Kidd who finished the second quarter a perfect 8-for-8 on face-offs.

• The Hornets cut the deficit in half as they trailed 12-6 after shutting out York in the third quarter. Turnovers plagued the Spartans in the third as they committed eight and penalties compounded the problem as Lynchburg scored both of its goals on the man-advantage. York received a boost from Jack Michael who made four saves in the quarter and Kidd also helped limit the damage with a 3-for-3 performance at the face-off dot.

• York regained its footing in the fourth quarter, due in large part to a seven-save performance by Michael. Gunnar Reynolds book-ended the scoring effort with a pair of unassisted goals in the quarter to put the icing on the cake.
