How It Happened:

• The Spartans committed a needless penalty a mere 2:15 into the game, giving the Hornets an early scoring opportunity. Lynchburg cashed in the man-up opportunity as Shayne O'Brien converted a pass from Colin McGuire into a goal just 17 seconds into the man-up opportunity.

Thomas Pfeiffer tied the game exactly a minute later as he tallied an unassisted goal to get York on the board.

• The Lynchburg converted a loose ball into a goal at the 8:12 mark. Evan Lombardo picked up a loose ball that looked like it was going to be a Hornet turnover. Instead, Lombardo found Andrew Thomas who finished the chance to put Lynchburg up 2-1.

• Junior Matt Whitcher tied the game with a rocket shot that found the back of the cage from the right wing with 1:58 left in the first quarter.

• York took a 3-2 lead when Whitcher scored after a nice spin move to get some shooting space. The goal came 2:01 into the second quarter. Things went very wrong for the Spartans over the remainder of the second quarter. The Hornets tied the game and then took the lead on back-to-back goals from Logan Adams less than two minutes apart giving Lynchburg the 4-3 lead.

• The Lynchburg offensive onslaught continued as Lombardo notched back-to-back goals that were 50 seconds apart, pushing the lead to 6-3 with 5:49 left in the half. Andrew Thomas made it 7-3 with an unassisted goal with 5:04 left before the half. Kevin Rogers plunged a dagger into the Spartans with 16 left in the half as he pushed the Lynchburg lead to 8-3 at the break.

• Lynchburg outshot the Spartans 13-9 but Lynchburg's C.J. Santora made six saves in the quarter as he kept the Spartans off the board after their early second quarter goal. The Hornets also won 6-of-8 face offs in the fateful second quarter.

• York halted the Lynchburg run with a pair of goals in the third quarter. Austin Glab recorded a goal off a pass from Cameron Leech 3:59 into the second half. Brendan McGrath recorded a man up goal at the 8:14 mark, drawing York to within three at 8-5.

• The Hornets got another back-breaking goal as Lombardo scored with 23 seconds left in the third to push the Lynchburg lead to 9-5 heading to the fourth quarter.

• Lynchburg's Harrison Brennan opened the fourth quarter scoring with an unassisted tally, putting the Hornets up 10-5 just 1:09 into the final quarter of play.

• Pfeiffer tallied a goal off a Leech pass with 9:42 left in the game, cutting the York deficit to 10-6 with the man-up goal.

• York got a pair of goals 16 seconds apart late in the game as McGrath and Whitcher scored for York. However, York could not convert after winning the face off after Whitcher's goal as the Spartans suffered the hard-to-swallow setback.

Santora's 19 saves…Santora has been rolling as of late as he has made 72 saves in his last five games including a career-high 22 in the May 5 win over Roanoke … the 19 saves marks the 13th time this season that Santora has reached double figures in saves … Santora has made 31 saves in 126:56 minutes of work against the Spartans this season … Spartan goalie Landry Marshall recorded 13 saves as it marked his eighth game with double digit saves this season … the Spartans were held under double digits for the just the fourth time this year … York was 1-3 in games in which they were held below 10 goals … York had just seven turnovers in the loss … it was the fourth time this year that York had below 10 turnovers in a game and it was the first time this season they lost when having under 10 miscues.
