How It Happened
• York jumped on the Wolverines early as they opened the game with two runs in the bottom of the first. Savannah Zittle drew a lead off walk to start the game. After Zittle moved to third on a failed pick off attempt, she scored when Katie Maloney ripped a double to right to open the scoring. After Maloney moved to third on a ground out, Carleigh Ruleman plated her fellow senior with a sacrifice fly to right as York led 2-0 after one inning of play.
• York tacked on three runs in the fourth highlighted by a two run line drive home run by Ashley Werner. Julie Van O'Linda added an RBI double high off the wall in left field as York led 5-0 through four.
• York got a single run in the bottom of the fifth on a Haley Hirn sacrifice fly. Zittle ended the scoring with an RBI double to left center in the bottom of the sixth to provide for York's final 7-0 margin of victory.
• The seven runs were more than enough for freshman pitcher Ginger Lewis as she cruised to the shutout win. Lewis won her sixth straight decision with two of those wins coming via the shutout. Lewis nearly lost the shutout in the sixth as Nina Marcano hit what looked to be a home run but she missed second and the play was appealed. The Spartans won the appeal as she was called out turning a home run into a single and a put out at second.
